A few thoughts on City/Suburban life

Last week, we ended our time in San Francisco, and there have been all sorts of emotions going around. When we initially moved up there, we were a little apprehensive, as we loved where we lived before so much. But, the city completely grew on us, and we will forever look back on the time that we had there with so many awesome memories and feelings. I'm so grateful that we got that opportunity, as I was able to learn so much, meet awesome people, see things from different points of view, and experience the city life. So, now that we're back in Menlo Park (which was the city that we moved from), I've been thinking about all of the changes and how I feel about them. Here are some thoughts:

Aspects of San Francisco which I'll miss (this list could go on for a while, but I'll spare you):
  • Our friends
  • the washer and dryer inside our apartment
  • The endless options of activities to do on a given day
  • being able to walk to museums, shopping, grocery stores, the Bay, etc...
  • Standing outside on our balcony at night and enjoying the lights and cool air
  • The diversity of the people
Aspects of San Francisco which I will definitely not miss:
  • Smoking (I'll never understand)
  • The amount of time it takes to drive 1 mile
  • The motorcyclists who think it's fun to have an illegally loud bike, rev the engine, and drive really fast up 3rd street
Aspects of Menlo Park which I'm really looking forward to:
  • The ease of getting together with other people
  • Parking
  • More space for Claire to run around (once she starts, that is)
  • 2 bedroom apartment
  • Nathan being home in the evenings
We loved the city, and I don't want to dwell on the fact that we're not there anymore because I might start crying (like I said--emotions). But, we're really excited to be back in Menlo Park with all of our awesome friends here. It's fun to move back to a familiar place and know all of the shops, backroads, etc. So here's to gratitude for being able to live in San Francisco, and now our new life here.

You're the best Whit! And you're close enough that you can visit the city anytime! I love you!

We feel ya! It is a big transition (so quiet here, huh?), but we're thrilled to have you as neighbors!!
