Overrated

So I had heard so much about Magnolia Bakery, famous for their cupcakes. Many of my friends who have been to NY told me to for sure go there, and it was even hilghlighted on Live! with Regis and Kelly's "New York Week". So, I was excited b/c even though cupcakes are not my dessert of choice, a good cupcake can be a great treat sometimes! In one of my travel books, concerning the Bakery, they comment, "Wait in a line for mediocre cupcakes if you must." Thinking they were just bitter, I excitedly went anyways. This location didn't have the kind of cupcake that I wanted, so I tried a beautiful chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting. Sadly, I agree with the tourist book and believe that these cupcakes are completely overrated. It was dry and nothing really special at all. Because of that, it was overpriced. But, they were beautifully frosted, and the frosting was really good. So, though I love my friends who told me to go here, I don't agree with all of the rave about this bakery. I might give it another try at another location where they have a different flavor, but for now I give Magnolia Bakery the rating of "mediocre" and not worth the price.
